...Heat Indices Near 100 Degrees Today...

The combination of hot temperatures in the low to mid 90s and
dewpoints in the upper 60s and low 70s will result in heat indices
around 100 degrees this afternoon. Be sure to drink plenty of
water, limit outdoor activities if possible, and check on the
elderly and neighbors. Always check your backseats before locking
your vehicle.

/7 PM CDT/ TUESDAY...

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of south central
Indiana and Central Kentucky.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Hot and humid conditions expected today, with afternoon temperatures
rising into the low to mid 90s. Heat indices are expected to be in
the upper 90s and near 100. Otherwise, there is a slight chance of an
isolated shower or storm this afternoon, mainly for south-central KY.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Thunderstorms will be possible for much of this week, especially in
the afternoon and evening hours. Brief torrential rainfall, locally
gusty winds, and lightning will be the main threats.

In addition to the storm chances, a combination of heat and humidity
will create heat indices rising to or above 105 degrees, mainly
Tuesday through Thursday.

GENERAL STORM MOTION OF THE DAY: East at 10-15 mph

can be erratic and constantly evolving.  Please use this with caution

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 107 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of and south central Indiana and north
central, northwest and south central Kentucky.

* WHEN...From noon EDT /11 AM CDT/ to 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/
Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
