EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING Issue Date: 437 PM CDT Wed Jul 6 2022  
...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT
THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with peak afternoon heat
index values 103 to 112.

* WHERE...Southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky,
and southwest Indiana.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly
increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly
for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Low temperatures will generally be in the
mid to upper 70s which will not provide much relief from the
heat even at night. Daily chances of isolated thunderstorms
will provide relief to a very few.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of southern
Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast
Missouri.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Excessive Heat Warnings remain in effect. Heat indices will only
fall to around 80 by sunrise.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will continue through the
evening hours. An isolated storm or two may briefly pulse up to
severe levels, with hail and damaging winds. However, the primary
hazards will be heavy rain and frequent lightning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

Excessive Heat Warnings will remain in effect through Thursday.
The coverage and duration of excessive heat will likely be reduced
on Friday as a result of thunderstorms. Please refer to the
Excessive Heat Warning for details.

There is a chance of thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, mainly in
the afternoon and evening hours. A few storms may briefly pulse
to severe levels, with hail and strong winds. However, the primary
hazard with most of the storms will be frequent lightning and
heavy downpours. The highest chance will be on Friday afternoon
and evening, when a cold front will arrive.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible on Saturday. Another chance for
thunderstorms returns on Tuesday. Severe weather is not
anticipated with storms during those time periods.
