WEATHER ALERT
Issue Date: 350 PM AKDT Thu May 19 2022
...Increased Snowmelt and Rising River Levels...
Temperatures rising into the upper 60s and mid 70s over the next
few days will increase higher elevation snowmelt across the
central and eastern Interior. Some locations in the Tanana-Yukon
Uplands and the Alaska Range have a record amount of snow on the
ground for mid-May. Runoff from snowmelt will bring significant
rises to rivers and streams, especially along the Alaska Range and
those draining the Tanana-Yukon Uplands. River levels will likely
rise to bankfull and possibly higher over the weekend and into
early next week. This includes drainages along the Denali Park
road, the Steese Highway, and the Taylor Highway. Residents are
encouraged to watch river levels and move items along the
riverbank to higher ground.
A Flood Watch is in effect for the Chena River and Salcha River.
