This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for a Large Part of Arkansas. .DAY ONE...Today and Tonight Heat index values will rise into the 105 to near 110 degree range for a large portion of central and southern Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon/Tuesday evening. Additionally, isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday afternoon with the main concerns being damaging winds, hail, and locally heavy rainfall. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday A cold front will be dropping south through the state on Wednesday...with chances for showers and thunderstorms increasing areawide. While the threat for organized strong to severe weather is low...a few strong to briefly severe thunderstorms could be seen across southern Arkansas Wednesday afternoon. Damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall could be seen with the strongest storms. Chances for thunderstorms decrease on Thursday as the front moves south of Arkansas. The threat for hazardous weather will then be low through early Saturday. Chances for thunderstorms return to the forecast over the weekend into early next week. .Spotter Information Statement... ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Heat index values of 105 to near 110 expected. * WHERE...A large portion of central, southern, and western Arkansas. * WHEN...From noon to 7 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
