This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.
.DAY ONE...Tonight
Rain and high elevation snow showers will continue overnight and
become more widespread towards morning. Isolated embedded
thunderstorms will also be possible producing dangerous cloud to
ground lightning, gusty winds and some brief small hail or sleet.
The higher elevations of the of Pikes Peak, the Sangre De Cristos
and Wet mountains could see 4 to 8 inches of snow by early Tuesday
morning.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday
Additional light to moderate snow accumulations will be possible
over the higher peaks of the southeast Colorado mountains on
Tuesday, as showers and thunderstorms continue across the region
behind a passing weather system. The main threats from storms
would be lightning and locally heavy rainfall, with heavy
snowfall expected above 9000 feet. Total snowfall accumulations of
5 to 10 inches will be possible above 9000 feet across the
southeast mountains with upwards of 10 to 18 inches possible
across the peaks above 11000 feet.
Warmer and drier conditions are expected to return to all of south
central and southeast Colorado through the middle of the work week,
with breezy conditions and chances of afternoon showers and storms
returning for Friday and into the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
The warm and breezy conditions will lead to increasing fire danger
once again, especially for the southwest mountains and into the
San Luis Valley.
