WEATHER ALERT
Issue Date: 435 AM MDT Fri May 20 2022
This hazardous weather outlook is for eastern Utah and western
Colorado.
.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight
A return to winterlike conditions is underway across the northern
and central Colorado mountains and the adjacent high valleys in
the wake of a powerful cold front. Much colder temperatures and
periods of heavy snow will occur today with accumulations ranging
from 1 to 4 inches in the high valleys to 6 to 12 inches in the
mountains. Despite recent warmth, slushy and snow-packed roads are
likely and will create hazardous travel, especially over high
mountain passes such as Rabbit Ears Pass and Vail Pass. Winter
Weather Advisories remain in effect until 6 AM MDT Saturday.
Farther south, the concern shifts back to fire weather. Pre-
frontal warmth, dry air and gusty winds will likely result in at
least localized critical fire weather across southeast Utah and
southwest Colorado including the US-160 corridor. A Red Flag
Warning is in effect from 8 AM MDT until 9 PM MDT this evening.
Finally, sub-freezing temperatures tonight will pose a threat to
sensitive agricultural interests across the valleys of northeast
Utah, northwest Colorado and the eastern I-70 corridor from Rifle
to Eagle. A Freeze Warning is in effect from late tonight through
early Saturday morning.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday
Snow and rain showers will linger across the higher terrain
through the weekend and possibly into early next week as low
pressure remains overhead. After that, a drying and warming trends
follows mid-week and beyond as a ridge of high pressure builds
into the western U.S.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
Spotter activation will not be needed.
