HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
Issue Date: 452 AM EDT Mon Jun 5 2023
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. .DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT. .THUNDERSTORM IMPACT... Isolated lightning storms are possible today, mainly south of Orlando and the Space Coast. Brief heavy downpours, wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph, and occasional lightning strikes will be possible. Move indoors to safety at the first sign of threatening skies or if you hear thunder. .COASTAL FLOOD IMPACT... The combination of high astronomical tides and gusty north- northeast winds will produce beach erosion and some breaching of dunes with inundation along the central Florida Atlantic coast around the time of high tides. Morning high tide will occur between 9 AM and 10 AM, with the evening high tide occurring between 930 PM and 1030 PM. Volusia County beaches damaged by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole last fall remain especially vulnerable to coastal flooding and beach erosion. .RIP CURRENT IMPACT... A high risk of life-threatening rip currents exists at all east central Florida beaches today. Entering the hazardous surf is not advised. .MARINE THUNDERSTORM GUST IMPACT... Isolated lightning storms will be capable of brief heavy downpours, occasional cloud-to-water lightning strikes, and wind gusts to around 30 knots on inland lakes, the intracoastal waterway, and Atlantic waters adjacent to the Treasure Coast. .WIND AND SEA IMPACT... North to northeast winds between 15 and 25 knots will build seas to between 6 and 11 feet. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all of the local Atlantic waters through tonight. .RIVER FLOOD IMPACT... The Saint Johns River at Astor (ASTF1) is forecast to remain near or slightly above Minor Flood stage due to gusty northeast winds through Tuesday before falling into Action Stage mid week. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. Beach conditions will remain hazardous Tuesday with a high risk of life-threatening rip currents. Coverage of lightning storms is forecast to decrease through mid week, then increase again later in the week. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation will not be needed today and tonight.
