...FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CDT FRIDAY... * WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues. * WHERE...A portion of northeast Minnesota, including the following county, St. Louis. * WHEN...Until noon CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Several structures are flooded and some sand bagging operations are continuing especially around Hunter and Bowman (Side) Lake. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 340 PM CDT, Excessive runoff due to rainfall and snowmelt is causing large rises on Island Lake. To prevent further flooding, Minnesota Power is releasing high flows into the Cloquet River which should mitigate the overall flood threat while temporarily increasing the flood threat along the Cloquet River. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. - More rainfall is expected this weekend, so extra water needs to be evacuated from Island Lake to maintain control of water levels in the basin. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. .DAY ONE...This afternoon and Tonight High water levels will continue in the Rainy River Basin over far northern Minnesota, as well as around the Island Lake Reservoir and areas downstream on the Cloquet River, especially around Side Lake and Hunter Lake. Minor flooding will continue along the Mississippi River between Aitkin and Fort Ripley in Crow Wing County and near Scanlon along the St. Louis River where Flood Warnings are in effect. A Flood Warning remains in effect for the Island Lake Reservoir and areas downstream on the Cloquet River. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday Water levels will remain high across many of the Northland`s rivers, creeks, and streams, especially in the Rainy River Basin, Island Lake Reservoir, Cloquet River, and the Mississippi Basin. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday afternoon and evening across the area. Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible Thursday afternoon and evening for northwest Wisconsin and portions of northeast Minnesota south of the Iron Range.
