At 139 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms 10 miles north of Statesville, or 5 miles southeast of Love Valley, moving northeast at 15 mph. Locations to be impacted include... Hickory, Statesville, Mocksville, Taylorsville, St. Stephens, Longview, Bethlehem, Bermuda Run, Stony Point and Harmony. Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail will be possible in these areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly. ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * LOCATIONS...the western Piedmont of North Carolina and eastern South Carolina Upstate, including the Charlotte metro area. * TIMING...This afternoon and early evening. * IMPACTS...The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. * HEAT INDEX VALUES...Up to 107 due to temperatures in the mid 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check in on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
