This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southeast New Mexico, southwest Texas and western Texas. .DAY ONE...Today and tonight. Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon across portions of the Trans Pecos and Permian Basin. A few storms could become strong with damaging winds the main concern. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for extreme fire danger this afternoon and evening across Southeast New Mexico, the Guadalupe Mountains, Culberson County and the Upper Trans Pecos. A Heat Advisory is in effect for much of the area due to the hot conditions. Take extra precautions if you plan to spend time outdoors and drink plenty of water. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday. A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for most of the region Sunday afternoon and evening for critical to extreme fire weather conditions. Widespread critical fire weather is also possible Monday. A high wind watch is in effect for the Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains Sunday afternoon for winds approaching 60 mph. Hot temperatures of 100 degrees or more are expected across the region this weekend. Take extra precautions if you plan to spend time outdoors and drink plenty of water. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation is not expected at this time.

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /11 AM MDT/ TODAY TO 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/ THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Temperatures up to 108 degrees are possible across the plains, up to 98 degrees in the mountains, and up to 113 degrees through the Rio Grande Valley. * WHERE...Portions of southeast New Mexico and southwest and western Texas. * WHEN...From noon CDT /11 AM MDT/ today to 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/ this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACT 309 IONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
