...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flash flooding in urban areas caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...District of Columbia. Portions of Maryland, including the following areas, Anne Arundel, Central and Southeast Howard, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Charles, Prince Georges and Southern Baltimore. Portions of Virginia, including the following areas, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Central and Southeast Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park, Fairfax, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford. * WHEN...From 8 PM EDT this evening through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - As the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia moves north along or near the Interstate 95 corridor, it will produce an area of enhanced rainfall. This is expected to result in 2 to 3 inches of rain, with high end amounts of 4 inches possible. This heavy rainfall will occur in a 1 to 2 hour period, and could result in flash flooding within the urban I-95 corridor. - Please visit www.weather.gov/safety/flood for flood safety and preparedness information PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. &&

...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM EDT SUNDAY... * WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low lying areas due to tidal flooding. * WHERE...In Maryland, Prince Georges County. In Virginia, Fairfax, Stafford and Central and Southeast Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park Counties. * WHEN...Until 5 AM EDT Sunday, especially around the time of high tide. * IMPACTS...Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. &&

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Northeast winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * WHERE...Portions of central, northeast, northern and southern Maryland, The District of Columbia and central and northern Virginia. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The combination of a long period of gusty winds and increasingly saturated grounds from rain will result in a higher likelihood for downed trees across the area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects. &&

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia. .DAY ONE...Today and Tonight A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Calvert and St. Mary`s Counties, over the Chesapeake Bay south of North Beach MD, and the lower tidal Potomac River southeast of Cobb Island MD. Sustained tropical storm force winds are most likely over these areas. A Gale Warning is in in effect for the Chesapeake Bay and adjoining estuaries north of North Beach MD and the lower tidal Potomac River from Key Bridge to Cobb Island MD. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 AM this morning until 8 PM this evening. Gusty winds and saturated grounds will result in down trees. A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for St. Mary`s County through 2 AM tonight. Moderate to major tidal flooding is expected. Additionally, Coastal Flood Warnings are in effect through tonight for the shoreline of Washington, D.C. and Anne Arundel County for moderate tidal flooding. Isolated instances of flooding due to heavy rainfall are possible through tonight. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday 223 Tropical Storm Warnings continue for Calvert and St. Mary`s counties, over the Chesapeake Bay south of North Beach MD, and the lower tidal Potomac River southeast of Cobb Island MD on Sunday. Sustained tropical storm force winds are most likely over these areas. Coastal Flood Warnings continue through early Sunday morning across the shoreline of Washington, D.C. and Anne Arundel County. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotters are asked to provide any wind damage and coastal flooding reports to the National Weather Service.
